Called “the worst tech device of the year,” Facebook’s smart display device was doomed from the start. The innovative AI technology for improved video calling received good reviews. But after a series of serious data privacy scandals, consumers rejected the idea of a Facebook camera in their homes. Facebook portal failed not because of technology or design. It failed because of trust. People no longer trusted the company. Trust is hard to build up and so easy to lose.
