1981-1982

The DeLorean was one of the most spectacular innovation failures in history. Its unusual design of stainless steel and exotic gull-wing doors made it seem like something out of the future. The DeLorean was marketed as a luxury sports car but had a severely underpowered engine. Quality issues made the car a disaster, often called a “nightmare on wheels.” Regardless of its failure and flaws, the car will always be remembered as the famous time machine from the movie series Back to the Future.
