This smart pen technology transformed pen and paper into a digital interface. Anoto automatically transferred handwritten text to a computer thanks to its innovative digital paper encoded with invisible dots. Despite huge investments, the digital pens were a commercial disappointment. The pen was expensive and difficult to use. Anoto failed due to focusing on the pen’s technical features, rather than on the user experience.
