Ahlgrens Bilar

1953

The Ahlgrens candy factory was known for its refreshing Läkerol pastilles. The factory manager, Gustav Belinky, and his colleagues were very innovative and often experimented with new products. During the 1950s, he was developing a version of the American marshmallow. But his marshmallows were too tough and chewy, and he thought that they had failed, until someone picked up a failed candy off the factory floor and discovered that they tasted good. According to the story, the chewy candy was named “cars” because Belinky loved Bugatti race cars. Ahlgren’s “failed” marshmallows became a huge success and are now the most popular candy in Sweden.
